All of the items you see were sent to us as a promotional courtesy with no promise other than \u201cI\u2019ll check out your product for the site.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"Polyvinyl Records Unboxing feat. Plato III and Anamanaguchi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CRz94y5OnzA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>A little background on the label would be helpful for all of us at this point. Darcie and Matt (the founders) launched a similarly named magazine in 1994 called Polyvinyl Press in the greater Chicagoland area. As a marketing and publicity tool, they included a 7\u2033 record with the third issue of the magazine, and thanks to a combination of local friendships and grassroots marketing this soon blossomed from their humble beginnings into a full fledged record label. They\u2019ve been printing vinyl for 30 years now, are still based in Champaign, IL and are 100% independently owned and operated.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"Polyvinyl Records - Good Music For All You Good People\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YEP7u1LC7is?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>I\u2019m not on the ground with the label in Illinois to ask them this, nor have any firsthand contact with the artists who distribute through the label to do it either, but the stated claim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polyvinylrecords.com\/pages\/about\">on their website<\/a> is a 50\/50 split with every artist on every record sold. Since they\u2019ve got 400+ releases to their belt this may be a \u201cproof is in the pudding\u201d scenario. They\u2019d not be likely to get that much business, let alone repeat business from well known artists like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anamanaguchi\">Anamanaguchi<\/a>, if it weren\u2019t a ethical and respectful arrangement. I\u2019m happy about that fact especially since the music industry often seems to be an endless cesspool of dirty deeds done dirt cheap; today though, we\u2019re specifically talking about Plato III\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polyvinylrecords.com\/collections\/plato-iii\">Grown<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"Plato III - Grown [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/__CkdA0kX2E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>A review of the music itself will come in a separate article. At times I\u2019m forced to report that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/2026\/08\/geto-boys-scarface-get-amazing-vinyl-reissues\/\">unique colors and variants are out of print<\/a> when doing this, but happily that\u2019s not the case with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polyvinylrecords.com\/collections\/plato-iii\">Grown<\/a>.\u201d The clear blue vinyl described on the website is exactly what they sent me, though calling it \u201cclear blue\u201d doesn\u2019t actually do it justice. This vinyl print is closer to transparent than a rich dark blue, giving it a color I can best remember from a trip to the Caribbean over 20 years ago. I was astounded at the time how calm, clear and translucent the blue waters of the Bahamas were. You could look straight down and see coral reef through the surface. If I held up a seashell to this record, I could do the same.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60091\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Plato-III.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Plato-III.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Plato-III-300x169.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>I think you\u2019re unlikely to see a print that unique for only $22 (before shipping) anywhere else. That\u2019s really good value given that even standard vinyl prints often go for $25 in basic black, while Record Store Day editions in unique colors often go for $45 or more. The aforementioned Anamanaguchi was also sent to me in this package, and I\u2019m giving high marks in particular to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polyvinylrecords.com\/products\/anamanaguchi-endless-fantasy\">Endless Fantasy<\/a>\u201d for the spectacular combination of clear vinyl with color paint splatter blots going all the way to the edge. As it\u2019s a double album it does command a higher price of $35, but if you\u2019re a fan of their pop and chiptune music (famously featured in Scott Pilgrim video games) you\u2019ll get your money\u2019s worth.
