{"id":18,"date":"2026-08-22T21:55:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T21:55:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aurapulse.live\/?p=18"},"modified":"2026-08-22T21:55:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T21:55:41","slug":"dj-premier-bumpy-knuckles-stoodiotyme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aurapulse.live\/?p=18","title":{"rendered":"DJ Premier &#038; Bumpy Knuckles :: StOoDiOtYmE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Exactly three weeks before \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/2012\/05\/dj-premier-bumpy-knuckles-kolexxxion\/\">KoleXXXion<\/a>\u201d dropped, DJ Premier &amp; Bumpy Knuckles put out a short EP called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/6OyhsGe7Lv4p5boYM3tn9a\">StOoDiOtYmE<\/a>.\u201d I wouldn\u2019t blame you for not knowing considering (1.) the album was a much bigger deal and (2.) you\u2019d probably assume anything on the EP wound up on the full length album anyway. Let\u2019s put that theory to the test.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"StOoDiOtYmE\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hHuCE00Gv2Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The title track \u201cStOoDiOtYmE\u201d certainly can\u2019t be found anywhere else. Primo laces the former Freddie Foxxx with a solid and effective banger that\u2019s heavy on piano samples, then winds up it\u2019s short run of 2:40 with Primo scratching in samples of Craig G and the Beastie Boys. That would have been a dope chorus had they extended (no pun intended) the song out a bit. Knux isn\u2019t at his most amped up and charged here, but he\u2019s dropping solid bars with his gravelly demeanor. \u201c<em>Never forget \u2013 my grime, my hustle\/ups and downs, tussles, scuffles\/robbed niggaz took duffels \u2013 tryin\u2019 to get studio time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"Fake\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FB2u6VT_Ij8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFake\u201d didn\u2019t make the LP either. There may be a pattern here, as a majority of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/2012\/05\/dj-premier-bumpy-knuckles-kolexxxion\/\">KoleXXXion<\/a>\u201d was Premier instrumentals that didn\u2019t get used by the artists they were meant for, so <strong>conceivably<\/strong> these songs are originals meant just for Bumpy and nobody else. The song stars with a vow from Knux to never stop talking about fakes in rap; let\u2019s be honest, that is a vow he kept and which most rappers in his lane find to be a familiar refrain. It\u2019s a little bit of a weak vocal performance though, ending on a low note with BK simply saying \u201cbass in your face\u201d over and over again. Thankfully the energy picks up for the next cut, aptly titled \u201cThat Preemo Shit.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"That Preemo S**t\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hnnv2LYhRXk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>That\u2019s a funny point for me actually \u2014 I prefer to spell it \u201cPrimo,\u201d probably because I took four years of Spanish in high school, but I see \u201cPreemo\u201d out there a lot. I\u2019d suggest they\u2019re <strong>BOTH<\/strong> right since either one is phonetically correct. In any case we\u2019re three for three on songs that are exclusive to this EP. I\u2019ve always said that Knux matches his energy to the caliber of his production, so the staggered Akai beats that Premier taps out obviously struck a chord. <em>\u201cRaw like Pesci\/smooth like Dinero\/I\u2019m poppin\u2019 in the hood like the corner store hero.\u201d<\/em> The boom bap vibes are <strong>STRONG<\/strong> on this song and the next joint.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m Bumpy Obama with bars\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"tAkEiT2tHeToP\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vq8CrOxRkM4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It might be fair to call \u201ctAkEiT2tHeToP\u201d a lost classic. <em>\u201cWhen I was young I had a premonition\/that my mission, would be\/to body competition.\u201d<\/em> There are certain Primo beats that make the hair on my neck and arms stand at attention \u2014 this is one of them. <em>\u201cHands up for the culture and everybody true to it\/watch what you let people do to it.\u201d<\/em> James Campbell is <strong>ON FIRE<\/strong> on this one, and unlike some of his most famous tracks, he never once has to yell or raise his voice. A lot of people are simps for rap stars with a big vocabulary and lots of super scientifical bars, but you don\u2019t need the biggest words to make the best points and do so with style and panache.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"cb-video-frame\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"Inspired By Fire\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y6U_5jcJ9-o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Ending way too soon with \u201cInspired By Fire,\u201d this EP proves to be wholly its own creation completely separate from a classic \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rapreviews.com\/2012\/05\/dj-premier-bumpy-knuckles-kolexxxion\/\">KoleXXXion<\/a>.\u201d Maybe it\u2019s the fact these were all made-from-scratch tracks with no prior history that resulted in an extended play release. Maybe the relatively short length of the songs (with \u201cFake\u201d being the longest at 3:11) made them seem lesser compared to the album yet to come. And maybe these were just the leftovers from a long series of studio sessions that still deserved a place in the sun.
